Department:02160 AMG Orland Park 167th - Hematology/OncologyStatus: Full timeBenefits Eligible:YesHours Per Week:40Schedule Details/Additional Information:This position is eligible for a $2,000 sign on bonus for external hiresRegistered Nurse - RN Outpatient Oncology Clinic in Orland ParkModels excellence in practice through direct care of Oncology patients, consultation with specialists and generalists in different clinical area, and interdisciplinary collaboration in planning care with the Oncologists. The oncology practice model assures the delivery of quality of care and service in a cost-effective manner, consistent with Illinois Nurse Practice Act and organizational policies and procedures.Major Responsibilities:Collaborates with physician and other health care team members in assessment, planning and implementation of patient careAssess health status, illness conditions, response to illness and health risks of Oncology patients, using advanced skills in history taking, physical examination and analysis of objective findings.Management and coordination of oral chemotherapy with specialty pharmacies and patients (including patient education).Evaluates with patient and Oncologist, the effectiveness, comprehensiveness and continuity of interventions.Ensures continuity of care- labs, pathology, referrals, diagnostic tests, obtain prior authorizations, etc.Coordination of Care between chemo patients and hospital infusion centers.Functions as an educator to provide information to patients and significant others using established guidelines; encourages the patients participation on self-care, prevention, detection, and recognition of cations.Provides triage and phone screening, counseling symptom management and appropriate follow-up for Oncology patients.Identifies, reviews and orders Oncology specific educational materials to be distributed to patients and significant others.Documents direct therapeutic care, phone and follow-up services provided to patients in SOAP format in the medical record or triage forms.Direct and Monitor Quality Control.Demonstration of competency , advanced knowledge or high skill level of careMaintains skills specific to specialtyActs as liaison to the department regarding patient care issuesActs as a resource to other staff in area of specialtyPromotes and participates in activities which allow for continuous improvement in the effectiveness of Oncology area.Developmental ResponsibilitiesMaintains emergency preparedness skills; CPR, ACLS, etc.Maintains current Illinois license as a Registered NurseMaintains certification as a Oncology NurseDirect Patient CareProvides direct therapeutic interventions; monitors and manages side effects experienced by patients.Orders, mixes, administers chemotherapy; disposes of waste consistent with organizational guidelines.14. Uses advanced Oncology clinical skills to provide or assist in the following procedures; a. Venous assessment for IVP-IVPB infusion b. Central Venous Access Devices c. Bone Marrow Biopsy. d. IM and Sub medical administrationPerforms other duties as assigned.Licensure:Nurse, Registered (RN)Education/Experience Required:BSN or equivalentTwo to four years experience as an Registered NurseKnowledge of pain control and management treatment modalitiesUnderstanding of growth and development needs of the age group with which the associates interactsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:Ability to function independently using critical thinking skillsGood communication skills Intravenous skill (IVP-IVBP cont. infusion.Experience in the functioning and diversity of central venous access devices.Demonstrate ability to handle, mix and dispose of chemotherapeutic agents.Current Illinois license as a Registered Nurse.Certification as Oncology Nurse , or obtain within 90 days of hire.CPR and ACLS certificationPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions:Assist/support/move ambulatory and non-ambulatory patientsAdminister CPR and utilize Automatic External DefibrillatorPush wheelchairs, provide assistance to ambulatory patients, and assist patients with dressing/undressing.Ability to lift 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantlyThere may be a need to travel to another site as requiredIf position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015.Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
