We are looking for a Pub Brewery Innovation Manager to join our team at the Clybourn Brewhouse! The Brewery Innovation Manager role is a self-managed position with constant direction and communication with the Brewmaster, Head Brewer, Brewers, Supply Chain, and, most importantly, the Clybourn Brewhouse team. Individuals in this role should possess a high level of creativity, with the ability to drive organizational goals through the creation of new products.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently run all aspects of local brewpub’s on-site brewing operations.
  • Develop fresh, innovative beers across largely-varied styles to be featured at local brewpub and potential other brewpub locations. Establish recurring brands as well as seasonal and single batch beers.
  • Carry on historical and classic styles dictated by Goose Island’s tenure in Chicago.
  • Constantly innovate in the use of standard and atypical ingredients as well as fermentation methodologies to produce forward-thinking brews.
  • Maintain stringent safety and quality standards in line with defined company policies/procedures.
  • Track and maintain local brewing inventory, source and purchase inputs, and manage costs.
  • Coordinate with brewing leadership as well as other company departments to establish and achieve volume budgets as well as scheduled release deadlines.
  • Collaborate with peer innovation brewers within other internal brewery and pub locations in new beer development and execution.
  • Supervise 1 to several on-site brewing personnel.
  • Assist restaurant management to curate diverse draft list across styles, ingredients and alcohol content.
  • Participate in restaurant management activities including staff education and clear descriptions of products.
  • Work with Head Chef to development continuity between draft and food menus.
  • Work with restaurant team to plan and execute events.
  • Bridge communication between Goose Island and Brewhouse location.
  • Learn about and communicate to staff new products coming from production facilities.
  • Keep brewery space clean, organized and tour ready for all off hours, and manage on-site draft line and equipment maintenance. 
  • Attend local and out-of-town brewing competitions and events to present and speak about beers to small and large groups. Drive local beer release events at the pub.
  • Bachelor's degree in brewing/fermentation, chemical engineering, or relevant discipline preferred.
  • Solid experience in modern craft innovation brewing. Strong reputation and references within brewing community preferred.
  • Track record of brewing innovation awards at local, regional, and national competitions preferred.
  • Leadership and personnel management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to effectively deliver presentations and speak to large groups in formal and informal settings regarding beer, brewing, and future planning.
  • Strong understanding of emerging concepts and approaches in brewing methods, inputs, etc.
  • Experience in budgeted project management.
  • Knowledge of food and chemical safety regulations and procedures.
  • Must be willing to travel 25-50% for brewing events, competitions, networking, etc.

Physical Requirements

  • Conduct’s work in a sitting and standing position primarily; however, job requires frequent walking, bending, stooping, and moderate to heavy lifting. 
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift 55 pounds overhead (grain bags) and 160 pounds (full kegs).
